Let’s talk about perimenopause and late diagnosis.

Let’s talk about perimenopause and the path of late diagnosed AFAB women.
.

Perimenopause for a lot of us is something we didn’t know about….women’s issues being something spoken of behind closed doors, and thus understanding how a biological response to changing hormones could upend our lives so

Estrogen and dopamine being intrinsically linked, that this chemical imbalance would arrive to highlight our inability to function as we always have….for the high masking person this biological response to aging doesn’t match what we have always known to be true.

Our ability to function and do….is challenged….and this can challenge our core believes as a person.

I speak to mothers and women who share this journey often – as we are juggling careers, and caring for families – children and aging parents, as all of our systems come tumbling down as our own operating systems no longer work as they have.

It is a time of unmasking. A time of awareness and a time that we as a community need each other more than ever. We need support when we have always delivered the support, and been the one others turn to.

Learning of our own neurology and making peace with our past is no small feat. We need our community around us to help us through this pathway and to provide support and care.
